Vehicle radio and the vehicle battery: 12 and 24 V power without surprises
The vehicle-mounted station lives on the battery of the car. If the power supply is made hastily, the connection disappears at the most inconvenient moment: at the start of the engine, in the cold or after a weekend in the parking lot. How to connect two-way radio so that you can forget about power supply.

How many volts does the station need?
Motorola GM340 is designed for 13.2 V with a tolerance of 10.8 to 15.6 V, minus - on the weight of the car. This is a regular on-board network of 12 In passenger cars, pickup trucks, shifts based on a light chassis: the station connects directly.
Trucks, all-terrain vehicles, trekoles, bulldozers and most special equipment live on 24 V. Directly there station can not be included - 24 V far beyond the upper limit of tolerance.
24 B: only through the converter
For a 24V network, a step-down converter 24→13.8V is put, for example VEGA PS-620. It keeps the station at even voltage, even when the network of the machine walks during the start-up and operation of the generator.
A common mistake is to take 12 V from one can, that is, from one of two consecutive batteries. The station works, but the batteries begin to discharge unevenly, and after a season one of them has to be changed ahead of schedule.
The wire -- right off the battery.
- The plus and minus lead directly to the terminals of the battery, and not from the cigarette lighter and not from the wiring of the dashboard: there the voltage sags in the transmission and interference appears.
- The fuse is placed on the plus wire as close to the battery as possible - it protects the wiring, not only the station.
- The wire is laid without tension, through regular seals, away from the exhaust tract and moving parts.
- For stations DM-series is ready HKN4137 cable: 3 m with safety lock 15 A. For the GM340, a cable from the station kit is used.
How not to land a car in the parking lot
At the reception, the station consumes a little, but if it is not turned off, over the weekend it can significantly discharge the battery of the car. This is especially sensitive in winter, when the capacity is already reduced by cold.
There are two solutions: turn the station on with the ignition or put a separate switch. On a permanent post, where two-way radio works around the clock, put a separate power supply unit from the network.
Frost and engine start
The operating temperature of the GM340 is from -30 to +60 ° C, but in the cold, the weak link is not the station, but the battery of the car. When starting the engine, the voltage in the network sags - it is more reasonable to turn the station on after starting, rather than keep it on during scrolling by the starter.
What to send on order
Model of equipment and the voltage of the onboard network, where the station will stand and how many meters from it to the battery, whether the car works in the parking lot with the engine silenced.
